Jen is one of our client reception team members at Manzini, and has been with us since 2004. Jen is knowledgeable, friendly and informative. Jen has gained valuable experience during her time here and at the SPCA in Vernon; if she hasn't experienced a pet-related situation, she knows someone who has! Her passions in veterinary medicine are behavior, nutrition, and client education.
She and her partner, Mike, have a large family including their son Hudson (5) and daughter Kennedy (3). She also has 4 dogs (Griffin, Ketya, Piper, and Buffalo) , 3 cats (Zeus, Hera, and Gary), 1 rabbit (Bun Bun) and 2 horses (Hercules and Bronwyn)). Top service and a nice smile are pretty much guaranteed when you deal with Jen.
Jen has been working Mondays for the last 2 years are she looks after her herd of pets and children. We are hoping we will be seeing more of Jen's smiling face in the future.
Alicia is one of our veterinary assistants who aid our veterinarians and technologists with treatments and surgery. Alicia has been with Manzini since 2010. Alicia graduated from the Vancouver Island University Cowichan campus with a certificate in animal care. Alicia is a valued asset to Manzini with her ready smile and determination to learn as much as she can in order to help our patients. Alicia is also our technology go to person as some of us are still hanging around with the dinosaurs (Alana).
Alicia grew up in Port Alberni and enjoys it's many activities. Alicia and her husband Dave and their young daughter Veda Rai are avid hikers and adventurers. They have 2 dogs (Maecko and Moomba) and 2 cats (Meow, Cheeky) who are the world to them. Alicia has been on maternity for 2016 but will be back Tuesday to friday in March 2017.
Keri is one of our animal health technicians. She attended Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta and graduated in 2001. She moved to Vancouver Island and was working in Victoria, before becoming a valuable Manzini employee in 2005. Keri has a quirky sense of humor and a loud laugh. You may hear her in the back trying to help relieve the tension in an emergency situation. Her focus is very pet centered, our laundry quantities have sky rocketed since Keri has been here. She loves to make a cuddly nest for every patient and is determined that the pets feel the best they can even when sick or having surgery. Keri is also a pet rescuer of the old and sick.
Keri and her partner, Dave, have a large family consisting of 5 dogs (Bonnie, Norton, Polly Walnuts, Benjamin Buttons and Bruce), and 3 cats (Ambrose, Kitty whompus, Black Mamba, and Peak Freen). Keri enjoys pinterest, hiking and tending to her large, furry family.
Nadine is a registered animal health technologist, and has been with Manzini since 2007. Nadine graduated from Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 2007, she had been working at Truro Veterinary Hospital in Nova Scotia while in tech school and continued there after graduation until Port Alberni called her home. In 2007, Nadine joined our team and we hope found her forever home. Nadine is one of the most compassionate, competent technologists around. Her passions are many; such as bowling, fast ball and pool. She often works weekends for her boyfriend Dave at Rainbow Lanes or the Rainbow room. Her talents are many and her time short as she cares for her two children, Ryleigh (born in 2005) and Bode (born in 2010), her dog Skye (SPCA rescue) and her cat Fro. It goes without saying she is kept quite busy with her loving family. Nadine loves to make use of all the outdoor activities Vancouver Island has to offer and loves a good game of ball (she doesn't mind winning either).
Caterina began working for Manzini in 2012 as a member of the client reception team. She was previously employed at Harbourtown Ford before taking time off to look after her twins (Jianna and Kyle) born in 2005. Caterina is friendly and helpful. Caterina is still learning every step of the way and if there is something she does not know she will find it out for you. Caterina is known as the`tidier'. She is always a busy bee either helping clients or cleaning up all the rest of our messes (Thanks Caterina!)
Caterina is an active member of the Italian Society and one of her favorite events is the Italian Picnic. She and her 2 children and a goofy weimaraner named Shadow have called Port Alberni home all their lives. Cat as we call Caterina loves to be social and enjoys hanging out by a backyard fire in the evening with her children and boyfriend Mike on the weekends. Cat if a friendly and firey little Italian whose size does not reflex the size of her heart. She is always there when client need a shoulder.
Tara has been with Manzini since 2009, she is pretty much our jack of all trades. Over the years she has worked in client reception, as an assistant, and on clinic maintenance. Tara is extremely efficient and if you want something done she'll have it done before you know it. Tara admits she's like a Ferraro Roche chocolate, crusty on the outside but soft on the inside. We may not always see her soft inside but the animals always do.
Tara's husband Shawn, her 3 boys (Brock 18, Carter 15, and Lincoln 5), and her 2 dogs (Yoshi and Roxy) occupy a lot of Tara's spare time. Tara spends more time in hockey rinks then at home in the winter and at the water ski club in summer. Tara likes to keep fit at the gym and getting her butt kicked at boot camps.
Sheena trained to be an animal health technologist at Olds College in Alberta. She graduated in 2006 and came back to work on Vancouver Island. Sheena started with us 2012 and has been a real asset to our practice with her sunny disposition and glass is half full attitude and she will be dearly missed while on maternity but we all wish her the best of luck with her non fur babies. Sheena and her husband and high school sweet heart Wayne have 2 children ( Leiland 3 and Lilliana 7 months). Sheena has been in 4-H most of her life and enjoys horses and the hobby farm life. Sheena has 2 dogs (Penny and Mya), 3 cats (Gingee, Mee Mee Dew Dew), and 2 horses (Dualy and Ben). She showed Dualy all over western Canada during her time in 4H. She also really enjoys painting, art projects and chasing her kidlets around.
Sheena is currently on maternity and will be back with us part time at the end of September..
Kathleen joined the Manzini Team in November 2016. Kathleen grew up in Nanaimo and then left our beautiful island for Vancouver. Kathleen trained as a veterinary assistant and worked for a short time at Langley Animal Clinic. She then found a wonderful crew at Newton Animal Hospital where she worked as a veterinary office assistant for 11 years. Kathleen, her husband and there 2 dogs (Sully the 1 eyed pug and Derby the Blue heeler) and their 2 cats (Ester and Wall-E) left the lower mainland for Kathleen's favorite place Vancouver Island. Kathleen enjoys island life dragon boating, antiquing, fishing, atving, gardening and re-purposing vintage finds.
Kathleen has been a great asset to our team with her knowledge in the field. She currently is working Wednesday to Saturday in the back but will soon be joining Caterina as one of out reception team members.
Jen is a nursing student who has joined us in a part time capacity. Jen has been working in the veterinary world for over 9 years in Courtenay. Jen has lots of experience and has worked in all aspects of a veterinary clinic. Jen is a very friendly, accommodating, helpful person. Jen we suspect may be the progeny of giants, and it has nothing to do with most of us in the clinic being the progeny of leprachauns (Jealous anyone?).
Jen now lives and works in Courtenay and Campbell River as an LPN but fills in for us when needed.
Jen has 1 dog (Ryley)
Worked for us while he went to school to be a Care Aide and is now busy pursuing this profession but he fills in for us in times of need.
